August 2, 2012 (Los Angeles, Calif.) – WrightWay Polo Center South will host the Pacific Coast Arena Polo League Tournament this Saturday and Sunday, August 4-5, at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, 480 Riverside Dr., in Burbank, California. Matches will take place between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. PDT, featuring captivating polo action and talented players and teams from all over California. The event is free and open to the public.
The Pacific Coast Arena Polo League Tournament is a series of events hosted at different area clubs, where polo players have the opportunity to compete for special year-end rewards, such as Most Valuable Player and Best Playing Pony. All participants must be USPA members. The event will feature polo players from all over California including Los Angeles, San Diego, Poway and San Luis Obispo. Started in 1995, this competition continues to grow in popularity as more than 75 of California’s top players participated last year.
“We’re happy to host this special event again this year and showcase this sport along with some of the great polo talents in California to the surrounding community,” said Erik Wright, professional polo player and founder of WrightWay Polo Center South. “The sport has so much history in the Los Angeles area, it’s important we honor the legendary actors and entertainers, like Walk Disney and Clark Gable whose star power naturally helped drive the game to new heights.“
WrightWay Polo Center South, which operates many area programs through the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, is one of four Regional Polo Centers (RPCs) accredited by the U.S. Polo Association (USPA), polo’s national governing body. The center is committed to program development and providing various learning opportunities for new players. It also hosts top-notch professional matches with competitive play that has helped generate the resurgence of polo in the U.S., which was recently illustrated in a 60 Minutes special.
Located on 75 lush acres reflecting the historic beauty of Griffith Park, the Los Angeles Equestrian Center is only minutes away from quality hotels, restaurants and attractions in the area. The center hosts a state-of-the-art 3,500 fixed-seat equidome arena where the weekend’s match and activities will be held.
