Looking for the perfect gift this holiday season? How about the hottest and best-selling Firefighter Calendar, which also helps save abused and abandoned animals? Yes, please…

The Charleston Firefighter Calendar, 2017’s hottest calendar, will heat up your holidays and for all the right reasons. Fifteen handsome heroes pose with 15 adorable rescues to save thousands of at-risk animals. Just like the dedicated members of the Greater Charleston Fire Departments, the most important thing the Charleston Animal Society does is save lives.

Charleston Animal Society

Established in 1874 by leading Charlestonians, Charleston Animal Society is the oldest animal organization in the state of South Carolina and one of the first in the nation. To achieve their mission of preventing cruelty to animals, Charleston Animal Society focused on horses and livestock, since at the time they were used for a number of activities. Dogs and cats began garnering the attention of Charleston Animal Society and other SPCAs after the turn of the 20th century; however, addressing the plight of large animals, particularly horses, continues to be a priority of Charleston Animal Society.

In 2013, the Animal Society launched the boldest animal rescue initiative ever undertaken in the Southeast – No Kill Charleston 2015 – to build the first no-kill community in the Deep South. Remarkably achieving this in the first year, Charleston Animal Society saved every healthy and treatable animal. The success of this initiative inspired the Animal Society to launch No Kill South Carolina, the boldest grassroots animal initiative in the United States, aimed at building a statewide infrastructure of supporting communities to strive for no-kill initiatives on a local level.

Toby’s Fund

Toby’s Fund is Charleston Animal Society’s medical fund and provides the medical care and treatment to save injured, abused, neglected and abandoned animals. Toby was a beautiful Golden Retriever mix who came to Charleston Animal Society years ago suffering from chemical burns over a large portion of his body. Despite his dire condition, the medical team saw the fight in his eyes and proceeded with weeks of intense treatment. He bounced back stronger than ever and was quickly adopted by a loving, new family. His story inspired those at the Charleston Animal Society, just like so many of the other animals that now benefit from the fund named in his honor. As they continue to treat the most difficult cases of animal abuse and neglect throughout Charleston County, there simply aren’t enough dollars to keep up with the volume of medical needs without the annual Firefighter Calendar. The calendar allows the Charleston Animal Society to save lives at the capacity that they do and financially sustain the no-kill community.

Caitlyn’s Story

On May 27, 2015, Caitlyn was found wandering the streets in a North Charleston neighborhood with her muzzle wrapped in electrical tape and her tongue sticking out, blackened from a lack of blood-flow, prompting a concerned citizen to call 911. The Charleston Animal Society team immediately responded to her injuries with the emergency care that she required. Once stabilized, she was transferred to Veterinary Specialty Care where cutting-edge veterinary technology and reconstructive surgery helped save and restore Caitlyn’s muzzle. Her recovery was amazing but she’ll always carry the scars from her trauma.

Caitlyn’s story and road to recovery captured the hearts of millions around the world. She became the face of anti-cruelty efforts across the country and an ambassador for all shelter animals. In 2015, Caitlyn was just one of the 273 cruelty cases Charleston Animal Society was involved in. They developed a multi-pronged approach to help with this problem and, in her honor, launched Caitlyn’s Anti-Cruelty Fund. If you’d like to join Caitlyn in the fight to protect animals and prosecute those who abuse them, you can donate at CharlestonFirefighterCalendar.com/Caitlyn.
