Role Part III: Reining Meets Eventing
Sunday, May 01 2011
by Editor
Here’a a few quick photos from the eveinings reining events at the Kentucky Horse Park last night. Karen O’Connor must not have been too tired after riding two horses around a 4* cross country track yesterday…. because she gave the Alltech Arena a hell of a show when she picked up the reins and rode a reining pattern. And not to be outdone, David reined as well -bridleless- Check out Cheval Photos’ online store for more shots and a growing library from the weekend. Stadium jumping begins today at 1pmEST – MUCH more to come! Her breeches and tall boots are an excellent touch.

OMG! KA-CHANG! Cross-Country Rings Huge Changes!
Sunday, May 01 2011
by Website Editor
The leaderboard has turned inside out and upside down in a glorious day of cross-country at Kentucky Rolex Three-Day Event presented by Bridgestone. The press conference just ended and the top three are: 1st & 2nd: Mary King (GBR) – Kings Temptress (47.7), Fernhill Urco (49.7) “I can’t believe it—lying in first and second places! I’ve never been in this position before, especially not at this level, on two very different horses,” said King, who’s thrilled to be eventing still at 49. “I’m going to celebrate tonight, because you never know what’s around the corner.” 3rd: Clayton Frederics (GBR) – Be My Guest “She’s a pretty good cross-country mare, if I can keep her quiet. She was fantastic today—I really enjoyed it,” said Fredericks, 43, who won his Rolex watch in 2007. 4th – Sinead Halpin (USA) – Manoir de Carneville “I was kind of excited when I first walked the course, because I thought it would be perfect for him,” said Halpin, 29, her horse is 11; this is their first four-star together and they jumped clean but ran 11 seconds slow. “I watched Mary [King] go, and then I didn’t want to watch any more.

Rolex Part II: Flatwork Takes Many Forms.
Saturday, April 30 2011
by Editor
It was all about the flatwork Friday at the Kentucky Horse Park. Flatwork, in the form of the Rolex KY 3-Day Event’s dressage phase, and flatwork in the form of sleek and shiny reiners inside the Alltech Arena. On the Line has a great appreciation for reining , enough so that even after staying awake (kidding, kidding, it was all excellent) through the eventing dressage, I was motivated to watch today’s reining competition via USEFnetwork’s excellent live online coverage. For those of us who can’t be onsite in KY this weekend, USEF’s online stream has provided a great window into Rolex and now the Kentucky Reining Cup, so three cheers for them. I plan on parking myself in front of the computer tomorrow morning at 10:00amEST for the broadcast of cross country day, to watch 45 riders much braver than I navigate the soggy footing that’s been the topic of so much conversation this week.

by Website Editor
Mary King (GBR) and her second ride, Fernhill Urco, scored 41.7, good enough for second place behind Tiana Coudray and Ringwood Magister who are still in the lead. Allison Springer and Arthur are in third, followed by King’s other hope, Kings Temptress. Twizzel and Will Coleman round out the top five

Minor changes after Friday Morning Dressage
Friday, April 29 2011
by Website Editor
Three horses from the morning session moved into the top 10 for minor changes in the leaderboard. Tiana Coudray (USA) and Ringwood Magister put in a test that had Beth Harpham calling us with the announcement that she had just photographed the new leader – even before Tiana’s score of 40.8 was announced. Allison Springer and Arthur slipped into second on 42.3, which dropped each of the following down one spot: Mary King and Kings Temptress, Will Coleman and Twizzle, Kim Severson and Tipperary Liadhnan, Boyd Martin and Remington XXV. Dubarry Style Award winner Clayton Fredericks (AUS) and Be My Guest scored 50.5 for seventh, which shifted south one place Michael Pollard and Icarus, Heather Morris and Slate River. R Star and Kristi Nunnink took over 10th place

Rolex Part I: Where Luck and Talent Coincide.

On the Line has every excuse for dropping off the Internet blogosphere for a week or so. First of all, there is very little that could top John French’s epic save , as featured in the previous post. Second of all, post-WEF recovery takes up a significant amount of one’s time. Pools need laying next to, cocktails need sipping. . . .well, actually, it seems that it doesn’t matter whether or not it’s season, certain equine bloggers are perpetually buried in “real” work. And most importantly, just what has been happening in the horse world these past two weeks?

Dubarry To The Rescue At Rolex
Wednesday, April 27 2011
by Website Editor
Looking at the Doppler (mid-morning 4/27) is a startling experience as huge storm systems, very very colorful storm systems, make their way up from Nashville – well, they aren’t starting there, but we don’t feel like tracking the storms to their source – bad, Mother Nature, bad bad bad!!! Already the Rolex schedule has been adjusted. Yesterday evening while we were on the road (more about that in a minute), the first vet inspection was moved from 3 pm today to 10 am this morning because of the predicted really big bad storms with winds (60-some mph!), hail, and maybe a tornado. OMG. So we get here this morning to TCB, check into the Media Center, and get some work done. We wanted to drop the May Sidelines at the show office – Phillip Dutton is on the cover – for the riders and some for the Outriders – the foxhunting 5Q is about the enthusiasts from Bridlespur Hunt, and muscle others to hospitality… Just as we got to the Trade Fair arena, security personnel were directing vehicles of all kinds to hurry up and park in the large enclosed warm-up area. Someone from Frain Security (what a great group of people, always pleasant no matter what) flagged us down
