By Yellow Horse Marketing for Cornerstone Event Management BURBANK, CA – Young dressage horses were the stars of the weekend in the historic and pastoral setting of the Flintridge Riding Club for Dressage at Flintridge CDI*/Y/J, May 26 – 29, 2011 in La Cañada-Flintridge, CA. As host of the Markel/USEF Young Horse Western Selection Trial for the FEI/WBFSH World Breeding Championships in Verden (GER) and the final Pan American Games qualifying competition for Southern California, competitors made the most of the opportunity to try to earn scores worthy of securing an invitation to represent their country on an international stage. In the Five-Year-Old division of the Markel/USEF Young Horse Western Selection Trial, the standout performer was “Sanceo”, a brown Hanoverian stallion (San Remo x Rivera by Ramiro’s Son II, bred in Germany by Gerhard Dustmann) ridden by Sabine Schut-Kery of Thousand Oaks, CA for owner Alice Womble-Heitman of Hempstead, TX. Winner of last fall’s California Dressage Society (CDS) Young Horse Futurity as a four year old, “Sanceo” impressed the judges to earn 8.12 in the Preliminary Test (40%) and 8.30 in the Final Test (60%)for an overall score of 8.23, the championship ribbon, and a possible ticket to Verden. “This stallion is such an elegant and light type of horse,” noted judge Natalie Lamping (4* USA). “He’s just what we’re looking for in this division.” Reserve Champion was the U.S.-bred bay Dutch Warmblood mare “Bakara” (Sir Sinclair x Thea by Idocus). Ridden by 2007 Verden competitor Willy Arts of DG Bar Ranch, “Bakara” earned scores of 7.38 and 7.60 for an overall 7.51 for owner and breeder Janice Kissel of San Luis Obispo, CA. In the demanding six-year-old tests, Sherry Van’t Riet of Monte Nido, CA rode her own brown Oldenburg gelding “Sir Deauville” (Sir Donnerhall x Estella by De Niro, bred in Germany by Karl-Heinz Drees) to win the championship title with scores of 7.38 and 6.90 (7.09 overall), while in reserve was last year’s CDS Five-Year-Old Futurity champion “Soleil” (bay Oldenburg gelding, Sunny Boy x Ricoletta, bred in Germany by Werner Martens Achternhoff) owned and ridden by Bekki Vrono from San Dimas, CA with an overall score of 6.74

By Yellow Horse Marketing for Cornerstone Event Management Steffen Peters and "Weltino's Magic" sweep the small tour in Burbank. BURBANK, CA – In sunny California, the competition for a coveted spot on the U.S. and Canadian Pan American Games teams heated up during the Festival of the Horse CDI-W/Y/J, held March 31 – April 3, 2011 at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank. Despite a large and talented group of international competitors, there was no stopping Steffen Peters with what the judges deemed his new “super horse”, “Weltino’s Magic”. Peters and Jen Hlavacek’s nine-year-old Westfalen gelding (Weltino x Diva by Diamond Boy) swept the small tour with impressive scores of 75.395% in the Prix St. Georges and 77.237% for the Intermediaire I, and debuted their new freestyle to a score of 79.417%. ”The first word that comes to mind is ‘fun’,” says Peters in describing the weekend’s rides. ”He’s really a pleasure to ride, so supple and forward now, it’s like that feeling that I get from Ravel.” On Peters’ heels throughout the competition were Guenter Seidel and “Sundayboy” (Dutch Warmblood gelding by Kennedy, owned by Richard and Jane Brown), who earned second-place finishes in both the Prix St

Dressage Riders Will Raise the Bar at Upcoming Festival of the Horse CDI-W/Y/J in Burbank, CA
Thursday, March 24 2011
by Editor
By Yellow Horse Marketing for Cornerstone Event Management BURBANK, CA – As Pan American Games fever is sweeping the nation, and winter-weary horses and riders feel the warmth of spring fever, next week’s Festival of the Horse CDI-W/Y/J competition will showcase the best of California dressage at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank, CA, March 30 – April 3, 2011. The level of competition will be high: with over 200 horses entered, more than half will be competing in FEI-level tests, and 65 will contest the international CDI portion of the show. “This is the largest CDI we’ve ever had,” notes competition manager Glenda McElroy. With two arenas devoted to FEI-level competition, there will be plenty to watch as exhibitors ride in front of an esteemed international panel of judges, including Linda Zang (5* USA); Cara Whitham (5* USA); Jean Michel-Roudier (5* FRA); Eddy de Wolff (4* NED); Jeanne McDonald (4* USA); and Charlotte Bredahl-Baker (3* USA). More than thirty horse/rider combinations from the United States and Canada will be competing for the hottest ticket in town – a spot on their nation’s team at the Pan American Games in Mexico this fall. In addition, Grand Prix riders, including Jan Ebeling and David Wightman, will pursue final qualification for next month’s Reem Acra/FEI World Cup Dressage Finals in Europe, while highly-competitive fields of Young Riders and Juniors will vie for scores for the NAJYRC and Festival of Champions. Always a spectator favorite, musical freestyle classes will be showcased on Sunday, April 3 in the Large Oval from 10am to 3pm. Adding to the show festivities, LA Saddlery and Prestige® will sponsor a wine and cheese party for exhibitors on Friday, April 1. Prestige® Italia saddle designer Roberto Rasia will be on site throughout the competition to talk to exhibitors about the Prestige® models, and will present a new saddle to the winner of the Pan American Games-qualifying CDI Intermediaire-I class on Saturday, April 2. In addition to intense competition for riders inside the show ring, Markel Insurance will present a free educational seminar, “Mastering Good Horsemanship”, with speaker Gil Merrick. This special opportunity for exhibitors to learn skills to be the best they can in both riding and life will be available free of charge at designated times throughout the show. Another highlight of the competition will be the return of “The Retreat”, a special hospitality area for exhibitors sponsored by the Lisa Seger Equine Insurance Agency. This popular lounge area will once again offer complimentary refreshments and an opportunity for riders, owners, and grooms to check scores, socialize, and utilize free Wi-Fi service
