CANTER-PENNSYLVANIA OPENS POPULAR BECKY JULIAN SCHOLARSHIPS TO THOROUGHBRED OWNERS ACROSS SEVEN STATES

Kendyl Tracy of Round Hill, VA with Uptown Indy

Thoroughbred Owners in PA, MD, VA, WV, DE, NY and NJ Encouraged to Apply

April 11, 2019 (Grantville, PA) – CANTER-Pennsylvania (CPA) will name three recipients for its annual training and educational scholarship program created to honor the memory of Becky Julian, an educator and Thoroughbred advocate. The scholarships of $500 each are to be used for training purposes only, such as riding lessons, clinics, camps or horse related seminars. The grants are open to Mid-Atlantic owners of Jockey Club (JC) Registered Thoroughbreds active in all equine venues including young riders, trail riders, hunters, eventers, dressage and pony club riders.

“Last year we received nearly 50 applicants,” said Sue Smith, Executive Director, CANTER-PA. “Our objective is to encourage rider/owner education in developing a JC Registered Thoroughbred whether an ex-racehorse or a horse that didn’t show potential as a race horse for a successful second career. We believe the best way to add value and demand for a Thoroughbred is through quality training that will create a long-term safety net for the horse.”

Congratulations to the 2018 winners:

Liz Howell of Chester Springs, PA, with Nice Try.

Scott Nickel of Whitehall, MD, with Chase Rodney Will.

Kendyl Tracy of Round Hill, VA, with Uptown Indy.

Last year’s CANTER Alum Ambassador Scholarship Award winner – for owners who purchased their horses through the CANTER program – went to Nikki McKinley of Howell, NJ, with Euro Demon.
