Intercollegiate Dressage Association’s 2013 National Championship

Mount Holyoke College Equestrian Center in South Hadley, Massachusetts and their dressage team will host over 100 riders from more than 20 colleges and universities throughout the United States at the Intercollegiate Dressage Association’s 12th annual National Championship on April 27th and 28th. Four-member teams and individuals in each of the IDA’s four divisions–Introductory Level, Lower Training Level, Upper Training Level and First Level–are chosen from the approximately 600 student riders representing 55 colleges and universities across 9 regions of the US and Canada.

Katie Dinan and Glory Days Win $15,000 Artisan Farms Young Rider Grand Prix

Wellington, FL – February 15, 2013 – Nineteen-year-old Katie Dinan and her brand new horse Glory Days were victorious in Friday night’s $15,000 Artisan Farms Young Rider Grand Prix, presented by Dutta Corporation in association with Guido Klatte, during week six of the 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival (FTI WEF). In a nine-horse jump-off, Dinan and Glory Days won over Wilton Porter aboard Radio City and Adam Prudent riding Jack Daniels. Week six, sponsored by Spy Coast Farm , will run February 13-17.

Angel Karolyi Begins New Partnership with $30,000 Raleigh Grand Prix Win

Raleigh, North Carolina – Competing in their first show together, Venezuela’s Angel Karolyi and Indiana 127 scored victory in the $30,000 Raleigh Grand Prix at the RMI Raleigh Benefit Horse Show held November 14 to 19 in Raleigh, North Carolina. 2008 Olympic course designer Steve Stephens whittled a large starting field of 26 entries down to four jump-off contenders in the Saturday night feature event. Karolyi had the advantage of being the last to go, having watched Sloan Coles post a clear round riding Chantilly while Tracy Magness and Regan Roberts both faulted

Two weeks ago I left the rolling green hills of Pennsylvania and flew to the flat brown mesas of New Mexico to join up with Caza Ladron, a hunt organized out of Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Caza Ladron is a recognized hunt with the Masters of Foxhounds Association, one of some 165 hunts in the United States, so you might think they might be stuffy, but one of the Joint Masters told me before I even sent in my check that this is a hunt that “has fun”.
