Opening Meet with Mr. Stewart’s Cheshire Foxhounds
Tuesday, September 13 2011
by Website Editor
With the soggiest August on record behind us and the second week in September requiring the evacuation of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and other cities along the Susquehanna River because of the continuing rainfall, a window of opportunity briefly opened Monday, Labor Day, to officially kick off the start of cubbing with Mr. Stewart’s Cheshire Foxhounds (Unionville, Pennsylvania) under a cloudy, but dry, sky. Members of the Hunt parked their rigs at St. Malachi Church, an ancient chapel high on a hill overlooking the Buck and Doe Run Valleys. From there, riders hacked to the front lawn of Runnymede, a farm that includes strenuous hills and wide, open meadows.

Big Money = Big Sport: An Exciting Day at the Pfizer Million
Monday, September 12 2011

The scene by the ingate was tense. The crowd lining the hill grew with riders and their connections as the class went on and rider after rider came away with one rail, two rails, six rails. When Duncan McFarlane, 21st to go, finally notched the first clear round, the crowd was overjoyed. As Duncan is based in Northern California, On the Line was especially overjoyed to see a hometown rider shine on the other side of the country in this incredibly difficult class

Late summer in Florida has been lovely (no, really), but this weekend, On the Line is enjoying an escape north, to a little 75-degree sunshine sans the humidity. Naturally, I’m at a horse show to watch a grand prix. It’s Pfizer Million weekend! The United States’ only $1,000,000 grand prix show jumping class made big waves when it debuted last year.

Being home to jump on Boston Common was personally gratifying for me,” said Peter Wylde, Olympian. Other world-renowned equestrians that rode the course were two-time Olympic Medalist Leslie Burr Howard, international champion Schuyler Riley, up-and-coming talent Nick Della Joio and accomplished rider and trainer, Bill Lowry. The event benefited the Boston Park Rangers Mounted Unit, the equestrian troop responsible for policing the nine parks throughout the city known as the Emerald Necklace. Despite threats of rain and thunder storms, the event went off without a hitch and concluded with a successful fundraiser reception on the elegant Roof of the Taj Boston hotel honoring the Park Rangers. ______________________________ About the Putnam Boston Equestrian Classic: The 2011 Putnam Boston Equestrian Classic is an Olympic-caliber show jumping event that will be held from Thursday, September 8, through Sunday, September 11, 2011 at the Myopia Hunt Club in Hamilton, Massachusetts. Dressage Soul Sister: Found.
Tuesday, August 23 2011
by Editor
From start to finish, reading the new novel The Dressage Chronicles by Karen McGoldrick, felt like sitting around a barn aisle somewhere with close friends and a closer adult beverage, gossiping for hours about horses and the crazy cool people who surround them. By the time I reached the last page of this book, a debut effort by dressage rider and trainer extraordinaire McGoldrick, this show jumper was ready to reach across the discipline divide and give her equestrian soul sister a fist pump.
