An Ode To The Off Track Thoroughbred

Monday, November 19 2012 by Editor
By Lisa Molloy Racehorses thunder out of the gate Thundering down onto the straight The bone then breaks, the race is lost The owners don’t want to defray the cost But all is not lost, along comes a truck Perhaps this time, this horse is in luck Up the ramp onto the air ride The leg is fixed and time we shall bide    But where to now, the track’s not an option The horse has another chance – its called adoption I greet them all with a wry smile And place their papers away in a file With a new pasture buddy, sun and some time There are people screaming “I wish he was mine” New shoes, shots and teeth done too My refurbished horses look just like brand new     Then comes their portraits, videos, social media next Hopefully their injury won’t leave them hexed This one is young with plenty of chrome Optimum outcome – to find a new home They browse the listings, he jumps from the page The next question is what is his age They drive from Maryland with very high hopes They stand and watch and see how he lopes   A donation is paid, the contract they sign The young girl shouts “he’s finally mine” And so would end this tale to be told But i shall continue to be so bold     The race may be over The race may be done The horse may be old He may even be young These horses are gems, indeed they are gold A new chapter is waiting to be told He was injured, he was so lame For him, no Kentucky Derby fame On the track, he was just a plain horse that bled To us, he’s the superlative off track Thoroughbred       Check out ReRun, Akindale and Turning For Home adoption programs on the web or go to http://www.facebook.com/lisamolloyracehorses for more information.

Does My New Horse Have A Coggins?

Friday, November 16 2012 by Editor
When people finally commit to the adoption process, contracts have been signed, adoption fees have been paid – the next question is “Does the horse have a coggins?” and frequently adopters seem surprised that not only do they come with a current coggins and health certificate but they are also up to date on vaccinations and de-worming. A horse is dependent upon us, it’s caretakers to make the right decisions to keep them safe and in good health

GEORGINA BLOOMBERG’s TEEN BOOK SERIES ABOUT EQUESTRIAN CIRCUIT CONTINUES WITH OFF COURSE AVAILABLE NOVEMBER 13, 2012

Thursday, November 15 2012 by Editor
A Fast-Paced Ride through a World of Privilege and Glamour Inspired by Real Life and Equestrian Experiences of Mayor’s Daughter In Georgina Bloomberg’s debut novel, The A Circuit (May 2011), readers fell in love with three spunky teenage elite riders competing in the privileged equestrian world: Zara, the wild child of a famous rock star, Kate, a working student serious about riding, and Tommi, a billionaire heiress. The series continued with My Favorite Mistake (February 2012) where we saw the characters bring more drama and controversy to the A Circuit than ever before.     Now, in Off Course (Bloomsbury; November 13, 2012; original paperback; $9.99), the highly anticipated third novel in Bloomberg’s teen book series co-written with Catherine Hapka, we watch Zara, Kate and Tommi continue their struggle to strike a balance between grueling competition schedules and barn responsibilities at Pelham Lane Stables with their desire to lead social lives like normal teenagers.
