Monday, September 01 2014 by Editor

Zippy Chippy, a 1991 Thoroughbred gelding, lost an incredible 100 races during his racing career, the 100 th race being at the Northampton Fair in Northampton, Massachusetts on September 10, 2004.

Steps to Great Hooves

Wednesday, August 27 2014 by Editor
We’ve all heard the saying, “No hoof, no horse.” Your horse’s hooves are the literal foundation to his soundness and athletic capabilities, so it’s important to take care of them properly. Want to help keep your horse’s hooves in great shape? These important approaches will help

Warrenton Horse Show – East Coast site for 2014 Sallie Wheeler B Wheeler US National Hunter Breeding Championships – WOO HOO!!!

Tuesday, August 26 2014 by Editor
Okay, we have been trying to find out why the heck FEI TV does not offer replays of the WEG ParaDressage rides – the way it does for all the other FEI disciplines being contested at WEG!!! – because we would love to write some posts about ParaDressage and its importance, as well as rave about the return of Lee Pearson to the GBR team, but hélas! (you don’t want to know what we had to do to find that French e with the ‘accent aigu’!) – no replays exist for ParaDressage! But you can get every single round of the reining and every test of the Grand Prix – WTH!?! We tried to find the French equivalent of What The Heck and the first thing that popped up was Que diable! okay…  what the devil might work, also Sacre Bleu!!! Mon Dieu!!!! Needless to say, we’ve had it up to here with internet glitches the last few days… ON TO SOMETHING LOVELY LOCALLY  – if you live in Horse Country VIRGINIA!!! Warrenton Horse Show, founded in 1899 (that’s right, it’s 115 years young!) – a great one-ring old-fashioned, small-town, historic horse show in Warrenton, VA and the home of Warrenton Hunt Night – will host again (no clue how many years running, but a lot) the East Coast Sallie B Wheeler National Hunter Breeding Championship. Under the able leadership of show manager Tommy Lee Jones, the horseman, not the actor, Warrenton Horse Show has evolved into a series of one-day shows, and this year runs from August 27 to 31. It is a Labor Day Weekend tradition and a labor of love for all involved!!!! (We wrote a pretty big story about it in 2008 for In & Around Horse Country  and you can read it  HERE ) FYI – thought you might like to see the USEF release about the Sallie B Wheeler National Hunter Breeding Championship, which takes place on Saturday, August 30.

Unbridled with Joe Norick! 🐎 Joe Norick stays Unbridled with Joe Norick! 🐎 Joe Norick stays busy with not one but two full-time jobs with companies that span the nation. The first is as a senior vice president for equine, farm and ranch clients with Alliant in West Palm Beach; the second, which he took on in October of 2022, is as the chief customer officer for HITS Shows. But Joe doesn’t care about titles. “I more consider myself the architect of what we’re creating here in the new HITS,” he said. Along with CEO Peter Englehart, Joe oversees all HITS Shows across the country—which is why he says lately it feels as though his home base has been American Airlines, traveling to each of the six unique HITS venues. “I love the fact that in Ocala we have so many beautiful paddocks, and over 500 acres that you can ride on and the horse can be a horse, and a horseman can be a horseman,” Joe said. “I love the beauty and charm that we have at our Chicago facility. I love the family aspect of Vermont. I love the high level of competition we have at both Del Mar and Saugerties, which we now call HITS Hudson Valley because of the amazing Hudson Valley. I love the tradition that we have in Virginia at our Culpepper facility. They all have something special.” Get to know Joe in this month's edition of Sidelines Magazine! and never miss an unbridled by subscribing for just $14.95 A YEAR! Link in bio! 📸Photo by ESI
Growing up, Zayna Rizvi put fashion ahead of funct Growing up, Zayna Rizvi put fashion ahead of function when it came to her riding attire. “I would only ride my first pony, Buttons, in a princess outfit. I refused to wear regular riding clothes and only wanted to ride in my tutu,” she said. The 2021 Maclay Finals winner has since shed her tutu and these days can be found sporting breeches and boots as she tackles the jumper ring in the High Juniors, U25 series, the FEI classes in the two-star and three-star divisions and occasionally makes her way back into some equitation classes. Immersed in the equestrian life from the start, Zayna can be found, if she isn’t doing schoolwork, in the barn trying to refine her riding as she aims to move up the ranks in international competitions.
