By Jan Westmark-Allan The de Leyer kids grew up with Snowman, who retired from the show ring in 1962. Photo from the Private Collection of Harry de Leyer In the May issue of Sidelines, Emily Riden wrote a story for us called “Harry de Leyer and Snowman: A Cinderella Story Becomes a Film.” It’s a great story and when I read Emily’s story I rushed out and bought the book “The Eighty Dollar Champion.” I loved the book and the story of Harry, a Dutch immigrant, and his horse Snowman

More Than One Perfect Day (And Place To Stay) In Palm Beach
Monday, April 01 2013
by Editor
By Jan Westmark-Allan I came across an article in Ocean Drive magazine the other day called “The Perfect Day in Palm Beach” and it made me smile. The article talked about where to stay in Palm Beach and how to “do as the uber-chic Palm Beachers do.” Several times this year I have “done” like the Palm Beachers and experienced the uber-chic lifestyle! Over the next three days I am going to tell you about the three luxurious places I stayed (yes, being an Editor can be tough!!) – and I will start with my first ultra swanky home-away-from-home: The Four Seasons Resort in Palm Beach.

Photographer Alan Fabricant (www.alfabphoto.com) was on hand for the action and sent me photos. I love the photos, like the one above, where no hooves are on the ground – that pony is flying! This weekend they played the qualifying game for the USPA Piaget Gold Cup and Audi beat Alegria and Veliente beat Coca Cola

Congratulations To The Winner of The Sidelines WEF Showing Vacation Contest
Wednesday, February 13 2013
by Editor
By Jan Westmark-Allan Jack Lube talking on the phone with our Sidelines Editor – he had just found out he won the Sidelines WEF Showing Vacation contest! After watching more than 70 videos and reading more than 70 essays written by people hoping to win the Sidelines Magazine FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival – a winner has been chosen!! Congratulations to Jack Lube, a 14 year old rider from Orlando, Florida on being the big winner! I called Jack’s mom first and asked her if she could video him with her iPhone when I called him – and she did. She cried first though, knowing that her son was about to have the opportunity of a lifetime.
