The First Royal Windsor Horse Show Was Held in May of 1943

In May of 1943, the first ever Royal Windsor Horse Show was held, beginning an annual tradition still in effect today. Founded by Geoffrey Cross and Count Robert Orssich, the first Royal Windsor Horse Show was part of the “Wings for Victory” effort to raise money to purchase war bombers for use during World War II. The first Royal Windsor Horse show was attended by King George VI as well as Queen Elizabeth

Lots more emotion today… The testing Derek Di Grazia track was deemed fair, but the four-star offered little mercy to anyone with so much as a momentary blip of inattention or last minute – and very costly – change of game plan. William Fox-Pitt, aboard Bay My Hero, appears poised to win his third Rolex watch after a double-clear cross-country round that moved him into first place. Seacookie added 7.6 time penalties and sits in 16th place on 59.1 ppts.

Thursday proved to be stellar, fun, moving and meaningful for this journalist/photographer, who honors Rolex and the 3rd annual ROLEX RIDE THE COURSE with the royal rating of 10 “Crowns of Excellence”!!!!! Wow! Who ever would have thought little old me would find myself the middle of so much Rolex excitement! In my wildest dreams, I wouldn’t have imagined that I would be sitting here, writing this blog, from the official media center of the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event presented by Land Rover . And when I’m not in the media center (or walking through the trade fair trying not to even look at anything), I enjoy watching the action from the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation tent. Or I’m attending the competitor’s party, rubbing elbows some of the best riders in the world
