It’s Easy to Be Inspired by Para-Equestrians! (Looking Back at London)

By Jan Westmark-Allan I love a good inspirational story or a person who inspires me to be a “better me.” That’s exactly what happens when I watch the Para-Equestrians. It makes problems I have seem insignificant – to watch these amazing riders and what they have accomplished, despite their limitations.

Spirit: Wild Stallion of North Carolina
Wednesday, October 10 2012
by Editor
By Jan Westmark-Allan Spirit – pretending to be a Wild Stallion (when he was younger) Spirit, the new Sidelines mascot, is really not a Wild Stallion of The Cimarron or even of North Carolina! He is a gelding and very sweet! Today we took our first trail ride and he was PERFECT – he led the trail ride and never flinched. When we returned to the barn he did countless tricks for three young riders at the barn – they certainly thought they were at a circus!! I felt a little bit like I was at a circus too – just trying to tack up! Apparently the cue for bowing with one knee all the way down on the ground is to touch his stomach with a lead rope.

By Jan Westmark-Allan A few years ago I was at my farm outside of Wellington, Florida, when Sidelines contributing writer Sydney Masters called me and asked if I wanted to catch the jitney with her that weekend and go watch the Hampton Classic Horse Show! Well of course I said YES! But of course I also couldn’t go.

Duke Rescue of the Week from Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control Duke is a 2-year-old male Flat-coated Retriever mix. He is a charming and handsome guy who loves spending his days at the park, socializing with other dogs, and playing fetch. He is housetrained and well-mannered. His adoption fee is only $20 this month; please ask for ID#1620988. I’m not sure you could ask for more. Besides, that’s a good-looking dog.
