New Sidelines intern Christina Alex I am excited to welcome a new intern to the Sidelines Magazine family. Christina Alex, who lives in Florida, is not only a talented rider but a talented photographer also. Two great things that go great together (I think that works for Christina and Reese’s Cups!)

By Jan Westmark-Allan My favorite photo! What an amazing backdrop to a world-class show jumping event. I lived in the Wellington area for many years, and heading to the beach was always a fun experience
By Jan Westmark-Allan Tank – a dog from Big Dog Ranch Rescue. All he wants for Christmas is a forever home!! Get ready for a “feel good” experience right now thanks to some cute puppy dog eyes! Yes, today’s blog is all about adopting a dog (not a horse) – but horse people are dog people, so it makes sense! My spotlight rescue is The Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Wellington, Florida is a not-for-profit no-kill shelter – and they do a great job of finding forever homes for their furry collection of dogs and puppies. I love their website and their ads – and now they have created a great YouTube video with Christmas music and a bunch of sad puppy dog eyes pleading that all they want for Christmas is a forever home! Very, very hard to resist! Some puppy dog eyes that are hard to resist!! Let Santa bring your family an adopted dog this Christmas! Enjoy the video and help Big Dog Ranch Rescue if you can.
Bring Home That Special Horse Just in Time for the Holidays! You’ve been holding out waiting for the right time to find your next show prospect or trail companion. Why not make your next horse an ex-racehorse! Whether you’re looking for a Standardbred or Thoroughbred, these talented equines can do it all! Now is your chance to adopt one of these talented athletes for half the price! During the whole month of December, New Vocations is offering 1/2 off all horse adoption fees! We only require that the horse must be adopted and picked up from the New Vocations’ facility in December in order for an approved adopter to receive the half off promotion. What did Santa put in your stocking?

By Jan Westmark-Allan The Dover catalogue and Sidelines Magazine in my mailbox on the same day – that’s a GOOD day! I live in a tiny town in Western North Carolina mountains. Think Mayberry and you have pictured it correctly! Our town is so small that our mail is not delivered to our houses but to a little 100-year old red former schoolhouse that is now our Post Office.

By Jan Westmark-Allan The love of a horse or pony can be a powerful thing in a young girl’s life! It’s almost difficult to put into words the importance that horses play in our lives - they are our joy, a warm shoulder to cry on, our therapy, our love, our exercise, our friend, our social outlet and our soul mates!! Imagine if you were an underprivileged young girl with a load of bad stuff in your life and someone introduced you to the great and amazing love of a horse or pony. Enter a program called Heroes N Horses – a program that helps young girls and changes their lives for the better. The Heroes N Horses program has done so much for these young ladies, but now the program itself is in trouble! Heroes N Horses has two locations – one in Ocala, Florida and another in Wellington, but they might have to close down if they can’t raise funds
