Riding the Spooky Horse
Monday, March 04 2013
by Editor
It’s been said that the most challenging horses are those who have the most to teach us, but riding a spooky horse can be unpleasant and worrisome, and can even affect your confidence. If you find yourself reluctant to leave the barn because your horse’s spooking is making rides unpleasant, learning how best to handle the situation can make rides more enjoyable for both of you. Evaluate Before you chalk up a horse’s spookiness or re-activeness to a training or behavior issue, eliminate the possibility of it being a physical issue

Animal Welfare Groups, New Mexico Leaders Express Great Disappointment in USDA’s Decision to Process Application for Horse Slaughter Plant…
Sunday, March 03 2013

WASHINGTON (March 1, 2013) – The Humane Society of the United States, the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), Front Range Equine Rescue and Animal Protection of New Mexico strongly criticized a decision by the Obama administration to process an application for inspecting horse slaughter at a New Mexico facility on the grounds that killing horses for human consumption is inhumane and creates a serious health risk to consumers. If the application is approved, Valley Meat Company LLC will be the first facility in the U.S. to slaughter horses for human consumption since 2007, when the few remaining plants closed after Congress chose to eliminate funding for horse meat inspections

Equestrian Philosophy Part II – Training the horse or the client
Monday, February 25 2013
by Editor
When I am evaluating a behavioral issue in a horse it is usually because the trainer cannot fix a problem. But the in order to truly fix the problem, the trainer must understand more about the horse’s natural behaviors, learning ability, communication and intelligence. Trainers often do not have time to spend with horses, especially if they are at a horse show and need to get the horse ready for a client to ride
