Wish You Were Here…

Friday, February 01 2013 by Editor
I spent the week after Christmas in Wellington, FL visiting friends, watching some amazing riding, and wishing that I was making the journey down south for the season. The sheer volume of equestrian activity that takes place in Wellington and the surrounding areas during the winter months is astounding

Barn Building 101: Stall Partitions

Thursday, January 31 2013 by Editor
While most horse owners or visitors to your stable will view and front of your horse’s stall, it’s actually the stall’s side partitions that do most of the work that keep your horse healthy and happy.  You want to keep your horse secure from biting and kicking by his neighbors, but want to keep him feeling “part of the herd” by allowing him to see other horses and not feel too closed in. Before discussing what makes a good stall partition , let’s recap some of the information about overall stall design we discussed earlier: While smaller horses or ponies can get by with a 10’x10’ stall, most horses need at least a 12’x12’ stall.  Warmbloods or mares with foals may require larger stalls.

David Marcus Top Canadian at World Dressage Masters

Tuesday, January 29 2013 by Editor
Wellington, Florida – David Marcus of Campbellville, ON, was the top-placed Canadian at the CDI5* World Dressage Masters Palm Beach held January 23 to 27 in West Palm Beach, FL.   In a 15-horse starting field that featured riders from Canada, Denmark, Italy, Sweden, The Netherlands, and the United States, Marcus placed seventh in Friday’s Grand Prix test.  Marcus and Chrevi’s Capital, 13-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding (Chrevi’s Cavallo x Weinberg) owned by Deborah Miculinic, earned a score of 70.66% from the panel of five international judges and qualified to advance to Saturday night’s Grand Prix Freestyle.   In front of a packed house at the Jim BrandonCenter, seven of the world’s best performed their individually choreographed musical freestyle programs.  Marcus introduced his new Freestyle program, compiled by Joost Peters of The Netherlands.  Featuring music from WHAM! and George Michael, the extremely difficult choreography highlighted Chrevi’s Capital’s strong canter work, including quality pirouettes and elegant half-pass, while impressive piaffe and passage were also rewarded with high scores from the judges.  The pair’s final score of 70.75% ranked them sixth overall in their World Dressage Masters debut.

We spent years living in the Wellington area and showing at WEF was part of our life, a really great part. For those who live far away or don’t have the finances or the horse or pony – we want to help you show at WEF!   Sidelines Magazine has joined forces with WEF to give one lucky winner the chance to show during the 11th week of the circuit – March 22-24.
