Roffman Rides to High Points at Florida Dressage Classic CDI
Wednesday, February 27 2013
by Editor
Wellington, FL (February 26, 2013) – What’s better than a great ride on a beautiful horse? Why, two great rides on two horses, of course. Caroline Roffman, who owns and operates Lionshare Dressage with rider and trainer, Endel Ots, continues to successfully campaign the Hanoverian gelding, Bon Chance (Belissimo M x Weltmeyer), winning Sunday’s Developing Horse Prix St Georges (70.147%) at the Florida Dressage Classic CDI, February 14-17, less than a month after equally-consistent Fourth Level marks during the Gold Coast Dressage series, and also had the highest-scoring (66.477%) Lusitano, Uruguai Do Arete, for owners Robinson Lusitanos, in the FEI Prix St George. Roffman said bringing the chestnut gelding Bon Chance, aka Moto, to the show arena at Fourth Level was horse’s first return to the ring since he tied for first in the Six-Year-Old division at the Young Horse Championships in 2012. The goal, after a solid win in the 70’s at Fourth Level, was to bring Bon Chance to Prix St George. With a second place in Saturday’s Developing PSG, and a win on Sunday, the Lionshare Dressage duo is right on track. “I am blessed to develop such horses and am excited for their futures,” she said.

Knowing how to take your horse’s vital signs is imperative in an emergency, and it’s a skill that you should practice ahead of time. Although there’s a range of vital signs considered “normal” for a horse, it’s important to establish a base line so that you know what’s normal for your individual horse. Temperature A horse’s temperature is typically between 99 and 101 degrees Fahrenheit.

By Jan Westmark-Allan Nic standing against the wall during his photo shoot. Notice his hair is messy on top of his head – someone had to fix it! Equestrian Philosophy Part II – Training the horse or the client
Monday, February 25 2013
by Editor
When I am evaluating a behavioral issue in a horse it is usually because the trainer cannot fix a problem. Problems such as a horse bucking, refusing to go forward , spinning out from under the person, grinding teeth or head flipping are common behavior issues with common causes. But the in order to truly fix the problem, the trainer must understand more about the horse’s natural behaviors, learning ability, communication and intelligence. Trainers often do not have time to spend with horses, especially if they are at a horse show and need to get the horse ready for a client to ride
