Getting involved in Lexington’s equine community, even without a horse of my own

This weekend from the beach in Florida, I finally had a few moments to reflect on everything that’s taken place since our move back to Lexington. And I’ve realized that even without a horse of my own, I’ve had a lot of great opportunities to get involved in Lexington’s equine community.  I would encourage other hopeful amateurs that may also happen to be horseless at the moment to find ways to get involved in their local equine community.

Miami, FL – April 5, 2014 – Tonight, history was made as the 42nd Gene Mische $200,000 American Invitational, presented by G&C Farm, found its new home at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, FL. The class has become a landmark of the showjumping world, and tonight was no exception as 29 horse and rider combinations gathered on the field to compete in a battle of the best. It was an electrifying night as spectators looked on to the stadium turf, but it was with swiftness and accuracy that Beezie Madden was able to emerge as the victor tonight.

Miami, FL – April 5, 2014 – A field of the nation’s top 20 riders gathered at Sun Life Stadium for the inaugural $25,000 Hollow Creek Farm Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic-earmarking a page in history as they set the stage for the 42nd American Invitational, presented by G&C Farms. Victoria Colvin was the only rider to lay down a double-clear effort, taking home the victory with Don Juan. Nicole Bellissimo and VDL Dogan rode to the second place, while Venezuela’s Emanuel Andrade was awarded third place.

Over $7,000 in scholarships & awarded thanks to Charles Owen & Co., FootingFirst, LLC, and the CPI Junior Ambassadors –  Scholarship Award Recipients with Olympian, Peter Wylde WELLINGTON, FL – March 31, 2014 – The nation’s premiere equestrian college recruiting event, the 2014 College Preparatory Invitational (CPI), concluded yesterday, Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center in Palm Beach, Florida. The 2014 College Preparatory Invitational (CPI) marked its fourth year with 150 student riders and nearly 30 participating colleges/universities from all over the nation.  More than 30 states, including Hawaii, were represented by the diverse roster of participants who attended the three-day event designed to provide scholarships and educate student riders about the different formats of college equestrian competitions while providing riders with resources to help them create their own indiv idualized college equestrian experience. CPI High Point Equitation Champion & Scholarship Winner, Kristin Konopnicki with Roy Burek, Managing Director, Charles Owen At the conclusion of all competition and speaker presentations, the CPI recognized its top performing student riders in various categories and awarded 11 scholarships awards

While you’re probably used to many aspects of show day preparation like cleaning tack and braiding, there are a few preparations that are less standard, but just as important. Check the Show Rulebook Before you start packing up to head off to the show, check the rulebook to make sure that you and your horse will be legal in the competition
