By Jan Westmark-Allan Nacho makes me smile! It’s Easy to Be Inspired by Para-Equestrians! (Looking Back at London)
Friday, October 12 2012
by Editor
By Jan Westmark-Allan I love a good inspirational story or a person who inspires me to be a “better me.” That’s exactly what happens when I watch the Para-Equestrians. It makes problems I have seem insignificant – to watch these amazing riders and what they have accomplished, despite their limitations.

Spirit: Wild Stallion of North Carolina
Wednesday, October 10 2012
by Editor
By Jan Westmark-Allan Spirit – pretending to be a Wild Stallion (when he was younger) Spirit, the new Sidelines mascot, is really not a Wild Stallion of The Cimarron or even of North Carolina! He is a gelding and very sweet! Today we took our first trail ride and he was PERFECT – he led the trail ride and never flinched. When we returned to the barn he did countless tricks for three young riders at the barn – they certainly thought they were at a circus!! I felt a little bit like I was at a circus too – just trying to tack up! Apparently the cue for bowing with one knee all the way down on the ground is to touch his stomach with a lead rope.

While Waiting for the Perfect Paint – A Quick Trip to Del Mar in California!
Saturday, October 06 2012
by Editor
By Jan Westmark-Allan A young fan collects autographs from his favorite riders at Del Mar, in California. All photos by Tish Quirk, unless noted Sidelines Magazine’s new mascot, Spirit, a Medicine Hat paint, is coming to live with me today! Known as the Perfect Paint, the shipping van that is bringing him from Boston to Asheville, North Carolina, got stuck in a LOT of holiday traffic so he is running late.

Next Summer: Destination the Hamptons! (Get Your Jitney On!)
Friday, October 05 2012
by Editor
By Jan Westmark-Allan A few years ago I was at my farm outside of Wellington, Florida, when Sidelines contributing writer Sydney Masters called me and asked if I wanted to catch the jitney with her that weekend and go watch the Hampton Classic Horse Show! Well of course I said YES! But of course I also couldn’t go.

Does the Perfect Paint Sit on Command? (Apparently So!)
Thursday, October 04 2012
by Editor
By Jan Westmark-Allan Sit Spirit Sit. Good boy! My search for the Perfect Paint included a long list of details (I am a good shopper and like to make lists!!) but never once on the list did I write: horse must sit on command!! Now that I think of it, however, it is a pretty cool item to have on a “wish” list – and lucky for me my wish is about to come true! As it turns out, I didn’t have to look far to find the Perfect Paint. Samantha Charles, the publisher of Sidelines Magazine, just so happened to have owned a Perfect Paint at one time and put in a call to the people she sold him to.
