WE ♥♥♥♥ UPPERVILLE!!! Spent the afternoon there, took some photos, wandered around both sides of John Mosby Highway and enjoyed the afternoon, nice and cool most of the day, took a few pix, watched some horses – what’s not to enjoy at Upperville? Plus, it’s so friendly – exhibitors, spectators, families – it’s a great outing even if you just like watching all the pretty Dobbins. Wunderkind Tori Colvin is back, showing hunters and jumpers - shown here with Monsieur de Reverdy after winning the $25,000 Welcome Stakes last year. © Lauren R Giannini One thing we find really handy is the convenience of a golf cart. We still do a fair amount of walking, but the cart saves time – and energy – and gives our dog a shady spot while we take photos, gather quotes, and yak with people. LOVE THIS GOLF CART !!! WELCOME TO THE 159th UPPERVILLE COLT & HORSE SHOW! We love Upperville and while we have not had the pleasure of showing at Upperville, we’ve known some great riders and horses who have performed under the oaks in the hunter rings and across the street in the jumper rings. There is state of the art footing in the main jumper ring – we think that Tommy Lee Jones, show manager par excellent, has done a fantastic job. We had just a moment to say hello to Tommy yesterday – he’s so busy all the time, but if you know him, give him a warm hello, because he and all his people, volunteers and staff, put their hearts and souls into making Upperville a great great show. Jennifer Alfano Wins the $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby

Jennifer Alfano riding Jersey Boy won the Hunter Derby at Devon this afternoon with a score of 395, topping Kelley Farmer on Red Sky with 389. Kelley Farmer took three of the five top places, taking third with Taken and fifth with Clearly. Peter Pletcher rounded out the top five with a fourth place aboard NF Shakespeare’s Rhythm.

It’s been too long since our last post, but we have an excuse – endless deadlines. Now, we’re not complaining per se, we love to write. However, the pressure of making each story unique and special and fresh can be uber-challenging as well as extremely brain-draining, especially when you are writing about 3-day riders who hope to make the US eventing team for the 2012 London Olympics Games. There is only so often you can contact an Olympic-hopeful to acquire more quotes: she/he has spent years and years to get to the top of the game and therefore tend to be hounded by other members of the working press

Photo By: Nancy Jaffer Buffalo, NY – May 31, 2012 - The National Show Hunter Hall of Fame awarded numerous honors last night at their annual dinner held at the Merion Cricket Club in Haverford, PA, but it was SBS Farms, Inc. who truly shined. Jennifer Alfano was named Hunter Rider of the Year, and her top mount Jersey Boy was named High Performance Horse of the Year and Hunter Horse of the Year. The NSHHF continues to foster the appreciation of the sport through the establishment and maintenance of esteemed awards. The winners of the yearly and overall awards are carefully selected by the vote of trainers who have had champions in the divisions at the shows that have been nominated for the Hall of Fame Horse Show of the Year award

The first Saturday night of the 2012 Devon Horse Show brings a chance to check out the vendors, the food, the carnival, who else is there, and, oh yeah, the horses. Liz Halliday and Baloo (Darola Diamond) Liz Halliday returned to eventing action at Tweseldown on Monday following the British season’s recent postponements due to bad weather. The spate of unseasonably heavy showers had put paid to nearly a month’s worth of competitions across the country, ensuring this was the professional dual sportswoman’s first outing since mid-April. As such, no less than four of Chailey Stud’s horses were in action at Tweseldown’s one-day event. Among them were Oscar (Viscount Oscar) and Baloo (Darola Diamond) who both enjoyed solid outings on their return to Novice competition. Indeed, having been away for so long, Liz was delighted with both their performances, including strong Dressage results and clear Show Jumping and Cross Country rounds that would eventually see Oscar finish 10th and Baloo 13th. Liz & Viscount Oscar Having contested the Lotus Cup UK’s second round at Brands Hatch on Sunday, Halliday’s quick-fire eventing switch also included two Open Intermediate entries with Fox (Red Letter Day II) and Bud (Newmarket Malt)

2012 Live Oak Hounds USPC Foxhunting Challenge Award

May 10, 2012 (Lexington, KY) - The sixth annual Live Oak Hounds USPC Foxhunting Challenge Award is made possible through the generous support of Mr. and Mrs. C. Martin Wood III, Joint Masters of the Live Oak Hounds in Monticello, Florida, and Past Presidents of the MFHA. The Award is designed to encourage Pony Club members who do not regularly hunt to try the sport, and to reward members who hunt on a regular basis to act as mentors to the less-experienced Pony Club members. $10,000 in awards will go to top six Pony Clubs who regularly take the greatest number of active Pony Club members out hunting. SSG Riding Gloves ‘Go Clean for the Green’ Promotion Comes to Kentucky

Lexington,Kentucky– The SSG Riding Gloves ‘Go Clean for the Green’ promotion, offering $30,000 in bonus money, will be offered at the 2012 Kentucky Horse Shows held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. Riders wearing SSG ‘Digital’ Riding Gloves with the SSG horse head logo clearly visible during all rounds of competition in designated events are eligible for the bonus. The first show to feature the SSG Riding Gloves ‘Go Clean for the Green’ bonus promotion will be the Kentucky Spring Horse Show CSI3* scheduled for May 9-13, 2012. The designated SSG Gloves classes will be Friday’s $50,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic, Sunday’s $10,000 Junior Jumper Classic, and Sunday’s $75,000 Commonwealth Grand Prix. Both of the grand prix classes held during the Kentucky Spring Horse Show are part of the 2012 U.S. Show Jumping Team Observation Events.
