Big Morning for Three Royal Cheers Three Royal Cheers was the was the most regal of ponies in Pony Breeding Classes in the Gold Ring this morning. The filly, owed by Denise Hankinson of Vixen Run Farm, Kennett Square, PA took home a blue for 2 Year Old Hunter – Filly as well as the tri-color for Hunter Pony Champion – Filly and Best Young Pony. Handler Emily Anne Belin received the Leading Pony Handler Award

William Fox-Pitt – Second Rolex Diary Welcoming a new member to the Fox-Pitt family [Congratulations on your new baby! How is she doing?] The big excitement at the end of October last year was definitely the arrival of Chloe Rose into the family! Luckily she waited to appear before I got back from Pau, so her timing was perfect. She’s now six month’s old and it’s like she’s always been here – she gets on really well with her two older brothers, and parents for that matter – we’ve been very lucky, she’s a good girl! Taking a break over the winter months [You had a bit of a winter break between November and January, how did you spend it?] The break I had between November and January was fairly baby focussed! Normally at that time of year we would have a holiday, Alice and I, but this year that wasn’t really going to be possible

The highlight class was the FEI Intermediaire-1 Freestyle, with Caroline Roffman (USA) and Her Highness O taking the top prize.

Wellington , Florida - January 23, 2013 - Setting a historic record for a show jumping class purse, the 2013 FTI Consulting Great Charity Challenge presented by Fidelity Investments® (FTI GCC) will distribute $1.5 million dollars to 34 Palm Beach Countycharities in an exciting event at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center on Saturday, January 26, 2013. It is only with the generous support of the team and corporate sponsors and riders that in its fourth year the FTI GCC has become one of the largest and broadest-based philanthropic events in the county. With this year’s total, the event will have donated 4.2 million dollars to more than 75 Palm Beach County Charities and has had a significant positive impact on thousands of lives in Wellington and Palm Beach County.

Yes, today’s blog is all about adopting a dog (not a horse) – but horse people are dog people, so it makes sense! My spotlight rescue is The Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Wellington, Florida is a not-for-profit no-kill shelter – and they do a great job of finding forever homes for their furry collection of dogs and puppies. I love their website and their ads – and now they have created a great YouTube video with Christmas music and a bunch of sad puppy dog eyes pleading that all they want for Christmas is a forever home! THE DRESSAGE FOUNDATION’S CAROL LAVELL GIFTED MEMORIAL FUND AWARDS $10,000 TO ADULT AMATEUR RIDERS

(December 3, 2012) – The Dressage Foundation is proud to announce this year’s recipients of the Carol Lavell Gifted Memorial Fund Scholarships for Adult Amateurs. Each will receive a $1,000 Scholarship to enable them to set aside quality time in concentrated training with a horse they own, with a trainer of choice, away from the daily pressures of job and family. “Congratulations to these deserving Adult Amateurs for being selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship! Thanks to the generosity of Carol Lavell, her family, and friends, we are thrilled to provide this support,” said Jenny Johnson, Administrative Director of The Dressage Foundation. “We hope that each recipient will make the most of the concentrated training time that this scholarship will allow, and we look forward to hearing from each recipient about her experience.” Up to nine $1,000 grants are available each year (one per United States Dressage Federation Region). Additionally, two wild card grants are available, and can be awarded in any Region. The following Adult Amateurs were chosen as recipients from their respective USDF Regions to receive grants for training in the 2013 calendar year.

I’m headed to Boston tomorrow to visit my daughter, and while I have traveling on my mind I want to tell you about a few horsey trips that I would love to do. My daughter and I used to visit great dude ranches out west every summer – but two trips I recently heard about would require me heading south! One trip I received info on is “Destination Lusitano” – a trip to Interagro Lusitano farm in Itapira, Brazil

I guess the only thing cuter than a real-life foal is a great photo of a foal – which is why Sidelines Magazine is holding the “Who’s Your Daddy” Foal Photo contest.
