Critter-Sitting On Deadline – Famous Last Words
Tuesday, April 02 2013
by Editor
We have always done more than write. In addition to bodywork on horses and smaller mammals, including humans, we provide excellent care for Critters, Farms & Houses when dear friends travel. Occasionally we must go to extremes in order to ensure the well-being of their animals and homes: these efforts more than justify the small amount we ask to help our bill-paying fund (aka income before outgo!).

By Jan Westmark-Allan The Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach – very grand! Last month my daughter Abby and I went to the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) for a week and had a wonderful time! Not only did we enjoy the horse show and all the wonderful showing, but we also stayed at three amazing hotels! In my blog yesterday I wrote about staying at the Four Seasons Resort in Palm Beach.

Turning Equine Fear into Curiosity Part 1
Friday, March 29 2013

Relaxing trail ride One of the most common issues I have worked on this show season has been to help horses over come fear, which of course leads to happy, calm, and confident horses. Which then leads to a better performance. With the USEF kicking off their Town Hall Meetings on equine welfare at horse shows at WEF on March 27, 2013, it seemed fitting to scratch beneath the surface of what causes over use of drugs or ltd (lunge-to-death) in the first place. We addressed “stress at horse shows” in the last blog, so now lets discuss a bit about fear – the other main culprit causing spookiness in horses.

Hooves are (literally) the foundation upon which your horse stands, and as such it’s vital to keep them well maintained and healthy. Regular trimmings are a necessity for healthy hooves, and it’s important to use a skilled farrier whom you trust.

How to Handle Dogs On the Trail
Monday, March 25 2013
by Editor
Whenever you head out onto public trails, you’re likely to encounter dogs. Hopefully they’re accompanied by their owners and are leashed, but that’s not always the case. Giving thought to how to deal with dogs before you encounter them will prepare you for if and when that time comes.
