Ladies Hat Day Alexandra Reid; winner of FEI Young Rider Test Dressage at Devon Day 4: Performance Classes   September 28, 2012 (Devon, PA) Friday was the first full day of performance classes plus wonderful exhibitions by Aussie horseman Guy McLean and the Delaware Valley Combined Training Association Quadrille.   “Remember Hope; this is your dream to do dressage at Devon,” said Guy McLean to his horse, Hope, explaining to the audience that following his performance last year they had a conversation that ended with a commitment by both horse and rider to perform dressage in the Dixon.   Later on the Delaware Valley Combined Training Association (DVCTA) Quadrille team – the Quad Squad – performed “Think Pink,” sponsored by the Unionville Equine Associates of Oxford, PA.  Their performance was comprised of a 13-horse team, which performed an inspirational, moving and upbeat medly of musical favorites

Sky Tiger – Available for Adoption

Friday, September 28 2012 by Editor
Introducing 5 year old, 16.2hh Thoroughbred gelding “Sky Tiger” who is available for adoption at the New Vocations’ Lexington, KY facility!     Sky raced 11 times with 1 win, 1 second, and 1 third place finish. This son of Sky Mesa is the prince of our barn. He loves to be pampered and treated royally; he finds flies offensive, but tolerable, and likes to stay mostly clean.

A Shared Land, A Shared Community

Thursday, September 27 2012 by Editor
Saturday, September 1 , marked the end of houndwalking for Mr. Stewart’s Cheshire Foxhounds in Unionville, PA and what better way to bring the season to a close but an early evening ride out from the kennels followed by a covered-dish supper?  Instead of meeting with the hounds at 7:00 AM, the “meet” was called for 5:00 PM.

New Vocations A Team Effort

Tuesday, September 25 2012 by Editor
We are frequently asked “what is the secret to your adoption success?”  The answer to this question is not a short one.  There is a lot that goes into New Vocations successfully adopting out over 400 retired racehorses a year. The one major factor to our success that I would like to spotlight is the teamwork that goes on daily behind the scenes.  It is the passionate commitment by our team of underpaid and over worked employees and volunteers that keeps New Vocations going. New Vocations was started in 1992 by Dot Morgan when she set out to provide a safety net for horses retiring from the racetrack so they might find a home and therefore have a future.
